Fundraising quiz in Arreton

A fundraising quiz is fast becoming a regular date on the calendar as organisers raise money for local families.

Quizzers on the Isle of Wight are being invited to the latest quiz on Monday 4 November at The Dairyman’s Daughter, in Arreton.

The charity pub quiz is in aid of The Wight Brainy Bunch and is being held by The Co-operative Funeralcare in Ryde which is part of Southern Co-op – the independent, regional co-operative.

The Wight Brainy Bunch is a local brain tumour charity which runs a monthly support group, provides financial assistance to families struggling with added expenses, and supports much needed research via The Brain Tumour Charity.

Sam Walker, Funeral Co-ordinator at the branch, said: “Our quizzes are more than just a fundraiser. They are social events and a good excuse to get together with friends for an evening.”

The quiz starts at 7:30pm and costs £2 per person with up to six people per team.

To find out more or book your place, contact The Co-operative Funeralcare in Ryde via 01983 615746 or by emailing rydefuneral@southerncoops.co.uk.

Charity quiz returns to help tackle poverty

After raising nearly £1,000 for charity in 2018, a quiz is returning to Bognor Regis to continue to tackle the town’s poverty.

Being organised by The Co-operative Funeralcare branches in Rose Green, Bognor Regis and Felpham, colleagues are holding the quiz to raise money for The Bognor Regis Lions Club – Wenceslas Appeal.

The appeal is aimed at helping people get out of fuel poverty during the winter.

Lindsey Booker, Funeral Co-ordinator, said: “The night is more than just a few answers on a blank sheet of paper. It includes a fish and chips supper as well as the chance to win some amazing prizes in a raffle.

“Last year’s was so much fun. We couldn’t have hoped for better. We raised so much essential funding for the appeal and the feedback we had was really positive.

“It is such an incredibly important issue that we want to help to fight. Being able to turn your heating on when you get cold should not be a luxury.”

The funeral homes are part of the regional, independent co-operative – Southern Co-op which encourages its colleagues to hold fundraisers, make donations and volunteer as part of its community engagement programme.

Earlier this year, the local funeralcare colleagues teamed together to wash cars for The Bognor Regis Lions Club – Wenceslas Appeal and raised £178 in total.

The charity quiz and supper is being held on Saturday 12 October at 7pm in the Rowland Rank Centre, at 205 Aldwick Road, Bognor Regis, PO21 3QG.

Tickets are £10 per person including food with four to six people per team. Individuals are welcome.

Places can be booked at any of the three Southern Co-op funeral branches in Rose Green, Bognor Regis and Felpham. Click here to find your nearest branch details.

Double the charity spirit at upcoming pub quiz

Quiz goers are being encouraged to polish off their favourite pens as a special quiz is being held in aid of two local charities.

The stimulating evening of trivia is returning for a second year and being organised by The Co-operative Funeralcare in Leigh Park – part of Southern Co-op.

To add a bit of healthy competition into the evening, teams will also be competing from J Edwards Funeral Directors in Waterlooville and Bedhampton who are helping to organise the event.

Last year the quiz raised £150 for Park Families, in Leigh Park, which provides childcare and education, respite for families and training for individuals and companies.

This year, the two chosen local causes will be The Rosemary Foundation – a charity providing a ‘Hospice at Home’ service around Petersfield, and Malmesbury Lawn Care Home in Havant.

Rachel Cast, Funeral Co-ordinator in Leigh Park, said: “Last year’s event was great fun as everyone had a good laugh – whether they knew the answers or not!

“But we wanted to go one bigger this year so we have roped in our neighbouring funeral directors. However, the night won’t be doom and gloom as we promise to keep the conversation light-hearted and on topic.”

The charity quiz night is being held on Wednesday 31 July from 7.30pm at The Swan Pub, in Jessie Road, Bedhampton.

Tickets cost £10pp with six people per team including a buffet and entry into the prize draw.

Caroline Hayter, Funeral Co-ordinator at J Edwards in Waterlooville, said: “The Rosemary Foundation is a hospice at home team based in Petersfield helping families within a 15 mile radius. They were absolutely brilliant last year when they helped my mum who passed away on the 11 July.”

Call for Island quizzers to get busy for charity

Whether you are a seasoned pro or a complete newbie, quizzers on the Isle of Wight are being invited to help raise money to support families affected by brain tumours.

This is the third charity pub quiz being held by Southern Co-op’s funeral home in Ryde and, if it is successful, it is hoped it could become a regular event every two months.

The upcoming quiz is being held at The Dairyman’s Daughter, in Arreton, on Monday 25 March at 7.30pm.

It will be raising money for The Wight Brainy Bunch – a local brain tumour charity which runs a monthly support group, provides financial assistance to families struggling with added expenses, and supports much needed research via The Brain Tumour Charity.

Sam Walker, Funeral Co-ordinator at The Co-operative Funeralcare in Ryde, said: “Our two previous charity quizzes have been a huge success as they raised £380 for the Phoenix Project – a specialist day service for adults with learning disabilities.

“Everyone involved had a great time so we are really pleased to be able to hold another one but this time for The Wight Brainy Bunch.

“The charity is incredibly special as it was set up by a local couple, Mark and Kathryn Grimes, after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2015.”

The Wight Brainy Bunch is being supported as part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’. This initiative addresses four key social themes – promoting greener, healthier, safer, and more inclusive neighbourhoods.

Charity starts in Ryde this Christmas

Following the success of a charity quiz night in October, a date has been set for a repeat performance but with a Christmas twist.

Southern Co-op’s funeral home in Ryde is planning a Christmas Charity Quiz Night on Monday 10th December.

It is hoped that the special night will help to raised money for the Phoenix Project – a specialist day service for adults with learning disabilities based in Haylands.

The Phoenix Project is the funeral home’s chosen cause as part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’. This initiative addresses four key social themes for promoting: ‘Greener’, ‘Healthier’, ‘Safer’, and ‘More Inclusive’ neighbourhoods.

Sam Walker, Southern Co-op’s Funeral Co-ordinator at the Ryde funeral home, said: “The last charity quiz went down a storm. We are overwhelmed by the support we have been getting from the local community. We raised £160 for the project which is incredible.”

The charity quiz is being held at The Dairyman’s Daughter, Arreton Barns Craft Village, Newport, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £2 per person with up to six people per team.

Charity quiz to help tackle poverty

Quiz goers are being encouraged to dust off their best team names as a new charity quiz is being held to tackle the town’s poverty.

Being organised by Southern Co-op’s Funeralcare branches in Rose Green, Bognor Regis and Felpham, colleagues are gearing up for the special night which will stimulate people’s brain cells and tickle their taste buds with a fish and chips supper.

All money raised will be donated to The Bognor Regis Lions Club – Wenceslas Appeal as part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.

The appeal is aimed at helping people get out of fuel poverty during the winter and last month Richard Johns, the chairman of the club’s fundraising committee, said they had already received two big appeals for help.

Lindsey Booker, Funeral Co-ordinator at Southern Co-op’s Rose Green funeralcare, said: “We held a charity car wash for the cause in the summer and we were so pleased to have raised £180. Our colleagues and family all worked extremely hard and we were very thankful for the community support on the day.

“So we want to try and repeat that success and help even more residents combat poverty. People shouldn’t have to choose between food and heating.”

The charity quiz and supper is being held on Saturday 27th October at 7pm in Rowland Rank Centre, at 205 Aldwick Road, Bognor Regis, PO21 3QG.

Places can be booked at any of the three Southern Co-op funeral branches in Rose Green, Bognor Regis and Felpham.

Tickets are £8 per person including food with four to six people per team. Individuals are welcome with drinks available at the bar.

Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ addresses four key social themes for promoting: ‘Greener’, ‘Healthier’, ‘Safer’, and ‘More Inclusive’ neighbourhoods.

Charity quiz to help adults with learning disabilities

Puzzle-enthusiasts and amateur-quizzers are being invited to take part in a new charity quiz on the Isle of Wight.

Being organised by Southern Co-op’s Funeralcare branch in Ryde, it is hoped that the special night on Friday 19 October will awaken people’s minds all in the name of a good cause.

All money raised will be donated to the Phoenix Project as part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.

The Phoenix Project is a specialist day service for adults with learning disabilities based in Haylands in a fully accessible building set in large grounds.

Sam Walker, Southern Co-op’s Funeral Co-ordinator at the Ryde funeral home, said: “We held a charity ball for the Phoenix Project just a few weeks ago and we were so pleased to have raised just under £1,300. Everyone worked extremely hard and we were very thankful for the community support on the night.

“So we want to try and repeat that success and help the special cause even more but this time we are swapping our ball gowns for cheesy pub jokes and tear-jerking tie-breakers .”

Families to benefit from charity quiz

Rachel Cast, Funeral Co-ordinator at Southern Co-op’s Funeralcare in Leigh Park, said: “Park Families is our current Charity Partner which is part of Southern Co-op’s community engagement programme ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’.
