A funeral plan allows you to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance of need, providing emotional and financial peace of mind for you and your family.
Who can arrange a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan?
The Southern Co-op Funeral Plan is available to anyone aged 18 and over. You can arrange a funeral plan for yourself or on behalf of a partner, relative or friend.
Do I need a medical to purchase a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan?
No, there is no medical required when applying for a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan, whether or not you have any existing medical conditions.
Can more than one person be named on a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan?
Two people can be named on a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan, with the option to use it for either the first or the second person that passes away.
How much does a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan cost?
The cost of a funeral plan will depend on the options you choose, for example, the type of coffin and funeral vehicles, or if you require flowers, stationery or memorials. We can supply you with a free no obligation quotation detailing all of these costs. Please note, an additional administration charge of £250 applies to all our funeral plans.
Will there be anything else to pay for at the time of the funeral?
A Southern Co-op Funeral Plan fixes the funeral services paid for with no hidden charges or conditions. Subject to
terms and conditions.
Will a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan cover costs if I die abroad?
The Southern Co-op Funeral Plan does not cover funerals that take place aboard. If you plan to go abroad, you should ensure that your travel or medical insurance policy includes full cover for repatriation costs. Once repatriated to the UK, the funeral plan can then be used to arrange the funeral as normal.
How do I pay for a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan?
Payment for a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan can be made online safely via Worldpay using a credit or debit card as a one off payment. We also offer an easy payment scheme to spread the cost over, 12, 18 or 24 months through monthly instalments, securing the cost for a fixed monthly payment. Instalment charges apply to 18 or 24 month options.
If I die prior to completing the instalment plan, is my funeral plan still valid?
In the event of death within the first 24 months of an instalment plan - the purchased price will still be honoured as long as any outstanding balance is paid in full. If a death occurs after 24 months of an instalment plan - the plan will be honoured without any further payments being required. Subject to
terms and conditions.
How will the person arranging my funeral know what to do when the time comes?
It is important to let the next of kin or executor know that you have arranged a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan and where the funeral plan certificate can be found. You also have the option to add a nominated representative whom can act on your behalf and be included in any relevant communications. At the time of need, they must
contact us and we will organise the funeral arrangements.
Can I cancel a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan?
If you change your mind and want to cancel a funeral plan outside our 30 day cooling-off period, the amount returned will be the monies paid into the funeral plan, minus any applicable administration and cancellation fees. Subject to
terms and conditions.
Can I change a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan if my wishes change?
Yes, you can alter your funeral plan arrangements at any time. Any products and services added will be charged at the current price.
Where do I have to go to arrange a Southern Co-op Funeral Plan?
The Southern Co-op Simple, Classic, Prestige and Premium funeral plans are only available to purchase online. A Southern Co-operative Funerals bespoke plan can be arranged via telephone or video call. Call 0800 243 380 to arrange.
All Southern Co-op funeral plan monies are invested in a regulated whole of life insurance policy in accordance with our statutory obligations. When you buy a plan from Southern Co-operative Funerals Limited, we buy a whole of life insurance policy with Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited (Royal London). Royal London is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.

How much will the funeral cost?
The total cost of a funeral will depend on the options you choose, for example, the type of coffin and funeral vehicles, or if you require flowers, stationery or memorials. Third party charges that are out of our control may also vary by location, including minister, celebrant, doctors and crematorium / burial fees. When you have made your funeral choices, we will give you a detailed written estimate of the costs. The Co-operative Funeralcare - Bereavement financial supportWhen do I need to register a death by?
By law, all deaths in England and Wales must be registered, normally within five days (unless by prior arrangement with the registrar).
What does the Registrar need to know?
- Date and place of death
- The person’s full name (and maiden name, if applicable)
- The person’s date and place of birth
- Their occupation
- Their last address
- Whether they were in receipt of a State Pension or other benefits
- Full name, date of birth and occupation of a surviving or late spouse or civil partner
Where do I register the death?
It is advisable to go to the registration office in the area in which the person died, as you will receive the documents you need on the day. If you use a different register office, it will take longer to get the documents you need which could delay the funeral arrangements.
Registering the death will involve some simple questions and the process normally takes about 30 minutes at the registration office. It is likely that you will need to make an appointment in advance.
Who can register a death?
There are a number of people who can register a death;
- A relative
- Someone present at the death
- An occupant of the house where the death occurred
- An official from the hospital where the death occurred
- The person making the arrangements with the funeral directors
